“If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your
land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand
against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for
his need, whatever it may be."
-Deuteronomy 15:7-8

Everyday in the United States, many families have to make difficult choices when it comes to the basic necessities of food, shelter, healthcare and childcare. All too often, sacrifices have to be made that not only affect the health and development of families but also take a toll on their quality of life. The rising costs of food and fuel are frequently the two major reasons cited for the growing reliance on food stamps and or food pantries. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, which tracts the Consumer Price Index, reports that nationally the cost of “food at home” went up an average of 5.8% between May 2007 and May 2008. However, the price of some essential grocery items has skyrocketed well beyond that rate.
ST. PAUL OF THE CROSS & ST. NICHOLAS PANTRY STATISTICS:

· At St. Paul of the Cross/St. Nicholas / St. Anne's Food Pantry, who provides emergency food assistance, decreased from 2008 by 10%
· In 2009 St. Paul of the Cross/St. Nicholas Food Pantry provides food assistance to approximately 10
different people in a given month.
· In 2009 we were able to successfully distribute food to 168 families/parishioners of St. Paul of the Cross/St.
Nicholas. St. Anne's Church for the holiday season thanks to the generous parishioners and businesses whose help we received .
· In 2009, we were able to successfully distribute food to 12-14 families monthly who came for emergency food
assistance.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU. . .
TO ALL WHO REMEMBER TO BRING FOOD TO OUR PANTRY EACH WEEKEND AND TO ALL THOSE WHO HAVE GIVEN MONETARY DONATIONS.
There's no better way to share the gifts that God has given us than to use them to help feed God's own people.

be blessed, for he shares his bread
with the poor."
